The Robert Schuman Foundation that was founded in 1991 after the fall of the Berlin Wall was approved by the State for its services to the public in 1992; it works to promote the construction of Europe both with regard to its ideas and in the field alongside the citizens themselves. The Foundation, which is a centre renowned for its research on the European Union, has provided itself with the task of maintaining the spirit and inspiration of one of the "Founder Fathers" of Europe, namely Robert Schuman and of promoting European values and ideals both within the Union's frontiers as well as beyond.

The Robert Schuman Foundation pursues three main goals:

Contributing to debates and progress achieved by the European Union : The Foundation works with a network of researchers and contacts, regularly calling on the expertise of European Union specialists. The Foundation's studies and analyses aim at providing European decision makers along with information with arguments and details of high quality on the Union. These studies comprise a precious source of information for all of those who want to understand the issues at stake in Europe

Helping the new Member States in their integration into the European Union and making contact with the Union's neighbours : The Schuman Foundation has increased its work in the field to take democracy forwards in Europe. It provides help to all the new Member States in the Union, also to candidate countries and neighbouring states in order to create privileged links and help these countries develop their relations with Europe thereby contributing to the establishment of a rule of law according to European standards

Encouraging research and young European researchers : Among research centres, the Foundation is one of the main provider of publications on the European Union and its policies. Notably it provides young researchers with an opportunity to publish their work. It also provides research grants to doctorate or post doctoral students who are working on European subjects.
