"Women in Europe" : the speeches

On November 19th, the Schuman, FAES, CKID, Ithaka and ANO Pro Evropu Foundations organised a conference on “Women in Europe. Reaching parity”. The 300 participants could listen to the interventions of high-level European leading figures.

Margot Wallström, Vice President of the European Commission, in charge of Institutional Relations and Communication, introduced the debate together with the president of the Robert Schuman Foundation, Jean-Dominique Giuliani.
At the end of the morning session the public and the many journalists present to the event gave a very warm welcome to Mrs Vaira Vike-Freiberga, former President of Latvia, Vice-Chair of the Reflection Group on the long-term future of the EU and at the time one of the main candidates for the job of permanent President of the European Council.

The European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, Vladimir Spidla, then drew the conclusions of the morning session.

The conference’s host, Rodi Kratsa, Vice Presidente of the European Parliament, couldn’t participate to the debate due to important parliamentary engagements. She addressed a message to the public and decision-makers, read at the opening of the debates.
